Arne's Welding Ltd: side dump trailerGoals and Objectives

The OEM-Supplier Development Program is the primary activity through which the VTC promotes technology advancement in Manitoba’s vehicle manufacturers. The OSDP supports joint projects by Manitoba companies -- original equipment manufacturers and their Manitoba suppliers -- to develop and adopt new technologies.

Outputs of successful OSDP projects are product and process innovation, improved supplier capabilities, market diversification and engineer training. Longer-term outcomes of OSDP projects are increased sales and exports, new manufacturing investment and job creation/retention.

Program Requirements

Fort Garry Industries: Cougar fire truck

  • Projects should include at least two Manitoba-based manufacturers within the heavy vehicle manufacturing industry working together, where at least one of the partners is an OEM or a tier-one supplier to the sector.
  • Proponents should have sufficient capabilities and resources to undertake the proposed project and commercialize the results.
  • Projects must demonstrate a reasonable and manageable level of technical risk or uncertainty.
  • Proposals should indicate details of collaborations with businesses, universities, colleges or research institutes — non-Manitoba participation is welcomed, though costs associated with such participants are not eligible for program support.
  • Proposals should indicate the project’s technological impact (e.g., new products, new processes, increased technological capabilities, development of highly qualified personnel, regulatory compliance, potential for new intellectual property, future applications of technologies developed).
  • Proposals should indicate the project’s anticipated economic benefits (e.g., market diversification, increased share of existing markets, new sales, new exports, import replacement, improved productivity, improved profitability, jobs created/repatriated/retained, new hires, new manufacturing investment).
